Help for Parents

Links to help parents create safe media

Media should work for you & work within your family values & parenting style. When media is used thoughtfully & appropriately, media can enhance daily life. But when used inappropriately or without thought, media can displace many important activities such as face-to-face interaction, family-time, outdoor-play, exercise, unplugged downtime & sleep. By creating a Personalized Family Media Use Plan, you can be aware of when you are using media to achieve your purpose. This requires parents & users to think about what they want those purposes to be. The links below, to include the Family Media Plan, will help you to think about media & create goals & rules that are in line with your family’s values.

I returned from summer vacation a several years ago.

Within days of being back in my San Francisco home, I began to experience headaches, heart palpitations, tinnitus and insomnia. I had never experienced any of this before. Oddly, the symptoms diminished when I left home. After a week of this, I mentioned the situation to a friend at work and she said the exact same thing happened to her husband when a wireless “smart” meter was installed on their home.

I went home that evening and found that during the summer, the utility company had installed a bank of wireless “smart” meters directly below my bedroom.

Could this really be the source of my unusual symptoms? The wireless “smart” meters were the only thing that had changed at my home of five years. it.

Liz Menkes is a professional EMF Consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area and one of only a few Certified Building Biology Environmental Consultants (Building Biologists) in the country.  She is also a Certified Electromagnetic Radiation Specialist, having completed an advanced training program.

She first became interested in electromagnetic fields several years ago when her neighborhood opposed a cell tower that would be very close to its homes.  That experience led her to representing a firm that advises local governments on the regulation of wireless facilities. She has a good understanding of the industry’s needs– what’s coming and why– and she shares this information with her clients.

Liz has been doing EMF home and office assessments since 2011.  She was trained on the Building Biology protocol for measuring and mitigating EMFs.  As a Certified Building Biologist, she is also part of a Building Biology study group that meets regularly and shares information and best practices. In addition, Liz has been a teaching assistant for the Building Biology EMF seminar.

Liz has a B.A. in History from UCLA.  She recently received a certification in Electricity from Diablo Valley College.
