How the FCC is dominated by the industries it presumably regulates
The Federal Communications Commission sits at the heart of a bipartisan Washington web of institutional corruption that has for many years championed corporate interests, typically at public expense. Echoing industry, the FCC has ignored the growing evidence that wireless technologies pose serious health risks. It has indirectly taxed consumers billions to pay for the pet projects of tech executives and lobbyists. FCC policies have enabled cable companies to charge the highest rates in the world while forcing consumers to pay for channels they don’t want.
A Special Investigation from The Nation
Just as tobacco executives were privately told by their own scientists (in the 1960s) that smoking was deadly, and fossil-fuel executives were privately told by their own scientists (in the 1980s) that burning oil, gas, and coal would cause a “catastrophic” temperature rise, so Carlo’s testimony reveals that wireless executives were privately told by their own scientists (in the 1990s) that cell phones could cause cancer and genetic damage. This article details how the Telecom industry used strategies that are
Policy Guidance Regarding Wireless Radiation
The Internet of Things offers much in the way of convenience, economic opportunity and efficiency. Depending upon how it is deployed, however, it also offers significant risk to our health, personal privacy, and national security. This brief gives insight to the many risks involved with implementing small cells and 5G in close proximity to homes. If we ignore these risks, the consequences include the loss of life and personal liberty. This brief also attempts to provide sound policy guidance regarding wireless radiation that will not only enable us to take advantage of most facets of the Internet of Things but also do so in a responsible manner.
Re-Inventing Wires, an important roadmap from the National Institute for Science, Law and Public Policy in Washington D.C., highlights both the many problems from wireless expansion and the benefits of wired and fiberoptic connections. “The Internet has become one of the defining technologies of our society. It is our central medium for commerce and communication—but more importantly—for our public discourse, engagement, and democratic governance. However, it has been hijacked by the commercial motivations that have come to re-define and constrain the availability, quality, content, and media of high-speed access in the United States.”
